Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen

I would assume that this is probably innocuous, since it was sitting there playing jazz music they almost definitely just put it in there to have some music playing and didn't think twice about the optics of it

That is not true anymore. Alexa+ doesn't always need a wake word and it continues to listen.

I've recently bought a 5th gen dot and I like it. I use Spotify but I can have apple music as default streaming service and I can't see why you wouldnt be able to link apple devices

Maybe not I spent all day yesterday demanding a refund on six echo devices which Amazon agreed to allow me to return and I had a Google nest hub at my house within an hour

It's a waste of money, fortunately when i bought it was at 50% discount, but still, waste of money. I basically stopped using it after 3 months of annoying ads, and alexa interrupting or hearing things, or trying to connect to a bluetooth. ... worst of all, amazon has completely sealed the device and made it impossible to root it

You'll get *much better* sound out of a stereo pair of 2nd gen units from eBay, for about the same money. All other functions are comparable. ... If you really like music, you won't be satisfied with the sound of any generation Dot.

There are forensics guides to pulling out information from its cache - I've heard techs say something like the last 2-3 minutes of audio at least. A malicious actor could absolutely pull that out remotely in the right circumstances.

If you like it and decide to get a second one you can put them in a group. This way when you play music it plays on both devices. Sounds great this way

My Alexa doesn’t have conversations. The only thing she knows how to say is I’m not sure how to help you with that.
