If the horrendous UI on the Fire TV Stick does not bother you the Fire TV Stick 4K Max Gen 2 is the better device. The SOC is faster on the Fire TV Stick, it has more storage and supports TrueHD/Atmos.

The Firestick 4k Max that came out in October supports TRUE-HD and DV. Supposedly if you use Kodi you can get DTS-HDMA. I will say the weird thing is yesterday I was checking the play info and it said it was direct playing the DTS-HDMA but when I checked my receiver it only said DTS. Not sure what that's about.

You going to find both good and bad opinions, but I have 6 of them in a rural setting( Starlink internet) and they work perfectly

I hope that's true this time. I already have a CCwGTV 4K but the lack of TrueHD 7.1 makes me want to pull the trigger on a FireStick 4k max now (38EUR prime deal). But I've seen a lot of bad comments about the UI, the ads and the need to sideload apps which Amazon may make impossible in the neear future.

I've used fire sticks since they first came out and still do in some rooms. Friends and family also used to get things like this through me. Every single one has died eventually, it's like the software updates eventually take their toll and it becomes unusable. It goes slow and needs more and more resets until it just doesn't work anymore. The 4k fire stick is by nature a better spec unit and therefore seems to last a couple more years than the standard version before dying out. For me, id spend the extra money knowing it won't need to be replaced as frequently.

The cube has a few more features that I wouldn't use and cost 100$ is technically the best. The best value is the 4k Max 16 gigs. You can easily fill up the storage of the 8 gigs models to a point that they slow down. The newest 16 gigs model has plenty of storage for most people.

I dumped 3 Firesticks 1 4K and 2 4k Max fire sticks for 3 Walmart ONN 4k pros. Not looking back. It's 50 bucks so it will probably be a few dollars more than the fire stick.

Yeah I originally got the firestick 4k max and it was okay but still has issues with earc. Went and got the cube and no problems at all.

I have both that and the google tv . I find it works better over all. I never did get the Google tv to turn on my amp which meant I still had to screw with 2 remotes. Quality wise they are very similar in my opinion. I now use only the fire tv.

Best device ever. I have Samsung smart tvs but FireTV does it all... Get it and start playing with it. You will love it.

✅ What Works

  • Fast processor with lightning-quick app loading and navigation
  • Exceptional 4K codec support including TrueHD, Atmos, and Dolby Vision
  • 16GB storage prevents slowdowns and app crashes (double the standard model)
  • Reliable performance in various conditions, including rural/Starlink setups
  • Strong value for the specs compared to higher-priced alternatives

⚠️ Worth Knowing

  • UI design criticized as cluttered with excessive ads and promotions
  • App restrictions and potential future limitations on sideloading
  • eARC functionality issues reported by some users
  • Some users prefer competing platforms like Walmart Onn or Google TV
ClearPick Verdict

Owners consistently praise the Fire TV Stick 4K Max for its fast processor and robust codec support, particularly TrueHD and Dolby Atmos, making it excellent for 4K enthusiasts. The 16GB storage is a significant differentiator—users emphasize that it prevents the slowdowns that plague smaller 8GB models over time. However, several owners cite the cluttered UI, excessive ads, and restrictions on sideloading apps as notable friction points; a small segment has switched to the Walmart Onn 4K Pro as an alternative. Buy if codec support and future-proof storage matter more than interface polish; avoid if you prioritize a clean, ad-light experience.
