My goal is to strengthen muscles that otherwise never get used because I sit/stand at a desk all day. My workout history is plagued with sore knees from running and in a few cases sore back from lifting. The m3 allowed me to get a real cardio workout without having to stop because of those issues. In fact, it left everything feeling better.

I have this machine and it's great for someone like me who has arthritic knees. It's good at getting the sweat going. I never sweat on recumbent bikes. As far as core work, heavy squats and using an ab roller seem to work well enough.
I bought the M3 3 weeks ago and about a 2 weeks in it has had the same squeaking on the left side. I've verified that it is for sure happening on the left roller. Have you had any luck fixing it? I used some lube on the sides of the roller and on the bar it rolls on without actually taking it off, and same thing, 5 mins of no issues then back to squeaking....
Hello, my Bowflex Max Trainer M3 can not rotate smoothly. When I press the pedal it would skip at certain point. Could anyone help me check how to fix it?
Everything was working great until I noticed that I was hearing a thud noise from time to time and seeing pieces of the drive belt shaving off. Upon removing the entire thing, I noticed that the drive belt was moving slightly sideways, resulting in the belt shaving off. I ordered an OEM belt replacement and got it installed using the manual. However, even after replacing the belt, after spinning the wheel a bit, I noticed the belt was starting to slip off and resulting in the same issue. At this point I gave up and am about to sell for scraps, but wanted to post here to see if anybody can offer any advice to fix it?
So the lube they say to use (silicon), or mineral oil hardly works at all for me. The issue persisted. I ended up squeezing some white lithium grease onto a cloth and generously applying to the rails that the rollers roll on. Not the best look because you can see the white grease, but it works like a dream. No issues at all through 5 heavy uses, though I'm sure I'll have to reapply every few weeks.
It's not the lubricant. I had Bowflex technician come out and add some washers to the rollers. Haven't heard a knock in years.
I have been losing sleep about how to make these rollers quiet, we flipped them and all. I was so very hopeful that there exists a tape to solve this instead of messy lubricants (my kids will absolutely want to mess with any goop, ha!) and HERE YOU ARE!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
I should have remembered to update this, I did the same thing last year, that solid white silicon grease worked perfectly, I re-apply probably every couple months
I tried every silicone grease to get it to stop... Probelm is the silcone just drips off. I went with the white grease and so far so good
Hey - where did you put the gaff tape? Sorry I'm a little confused. This squeaking has been going on for years and it drives me nuts.
I didn't want to take any risks and finally I chose to buy a magnetic elliptical which is absolutely silent even at high load.
โ What Works
- Genuinely low-impact, praised by owners with arthritic knees or a history of joint pain
- Effective cardio and calorie-burn in short workouts (14-minute interval claims supported)
- Warranty service eventually resolved issues for some owners with major failures
โ ๏ธ Worth Knowing
- Squeaking on rollers (5 mentions) requires white lithium grease maintenance every few weeks
- Belt alignment and slipping problems reported; replacement doesn't always fix the issue
- Pedal skipping and rough rotation in some units; noise loud enough to disrupt sleep
The Bowflex M3 Max Trainer delivers real value for low-impact cardio and joint-pain relief, with owners consistently praising its ability to build sweat and strength without stressing knees or back. However, squeaking on the rollers and drive-belt alignment issues plague the user base, and while white lithium grease is a known workaround, it requires ongoing reapplication every few weeks. Belt replacement and pedal-skipping problems suggest durability concerns, though a few owners report Bowflex's warranty service eventually resolved their issues. If you can tolerate maintenance and noise, this is a solid elliptical-stepper hybrid for joint-conscious exercisers; otherwise, consider a traditional stationary bike or rowing machine with a simpler drive system.
