SGP is infinitely better than your chinesium Amazon grinder. $60 is a good deal.

At $60 there is literally no grinder on the market than can beat this grinder. Even at its $200 list price this grinder is competitive (if not the best) ... In the last 5 years I have not seen the need to upgrade because it works very well, is easy to dial in and has not given me any problems.

I have a Breville Bambino and a Breville Smart Grinder Pro. I grind 19.5g beans at grinder setting 7. I do WDT and used a Normcore level tamper. The shot comes out at a perfect 40g shot. My problem is that it just keep channeling like the video, or spraying a lot with a bottomless.

The sgp is a clumper and has a fair bit of static retention. But it works and does the job quite well.

Not even $200 to $400 now, with the DF54 coming out at $229. But I do agree, $60 for an SGP is definitely worth it.

You probably need to change the internal grind setting to a lower setting, mine grinds plenty fine at an internal grind setting of 4.

✅ What Works

  • Exceptional value, especially on sale—outperforms grinders at 2-3x the price
  • 60 grind settings span espresso to French press with precise 0.2-second timer control
  • Easy to dial in for consistent results; straightforward adjustment curve

⚠️ Worth Knowing

  • Static cling and grounds retention require additional technique to minimize
  • Some espresso users report shot channeling even with proper tamping and distribution
ClearPick Verdict

Owners consistently praise the Breville Smart Grinder Pro as exceptional value, especially at sale prices around $60—significantly undercutting grinders 2-3x its cost. Users report it's straightforward to dial in for consistent shots with its 60 grind settings and electronic timer. The grinder does exhibit static cling and retention, and some espresso users report shot channeling despite careful technique. If you're prioritizing value and grinding for filter or French press, this is a strong buy; for precision espresso work, weigh the grind consistency trade-offs against the price advantage.
