Ugh, countertop ovens. I don't understand why none of the brands I have tried (Breville, Zojirushi, KitchenAid) can seem to make a rotary encoder knob that doesn't feel like it's off a product at 1/10th their price point. Always feels like cheap plastic and doesn't always register being turned for a single click for things like picking from the cooking options or temperature. This is the one touch point that is used every single time you use the appliance and it seems like the most cheaply-built, poorly assembled piece of the entire device. The rest of the unit always feels high quality and well-built, but not the f***ing knob.
Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact (BOV680BSS)
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact is the upgrade pick for anyone who wants true oven performance plus air frying in a compact countertop footprint. Element IQ directs heat precisely across four quartz elements, while the Super Convection air fry mode delivers hot circulating air for crispy results rivalling a dedicated air fryer. Ten cooking functions including toast, bake, roast, broil, pizza, cookies, and air fry cover virtually every cooking task, and the interior fits a 12-inch pizza or 6 slices of toast.

I've had my Breville toaster oven for 8 years now and it still.works great. I use it more than my actual stove.
This is my experience. Air frying in the Breville is messy and it is not as good as a much cheaper dedicated air fryer. My recommendation is buy the Breville to use as a convection oven for anything that will fit in it. If you want to regularly air fry, buy a dedicated appliance.
I was going to say that. I have relatives who have had a Breville for 8 years with near daily use, and it still works fine. That's why I ended up buying one a couple of years ago.
I think if you're using like an easy-bake oven (like I do), then it'll last. But if you're using like an air fryer it'll shorten the lifespan. Mine's been going great since 2020 but I cook mostly pizzas and braze in it.
The whole interior of my air fryer is nonstick basically. I sprayed Dawn power wash on it once or twice a week and let it sit for an hour. Looks brand new still.
we've had the Breville for the past 2 years, use it almost everyday. only the 2 of us. We use the airfryer setting for chicken wings, salmon, yes it does take a bit to keep clean but they all do. The proofing setting is great and baking bread tin it works as well, just need to put a piece of aluminum foil over the bread for the first part of the bake. The other bake, roast, broil settings work just fine. We don't use it for a toaster, but have warmed up croissants in it the convection helps keep them crisp.
โ What Works
- Air fryer + toaster oven in one compact unit โ eliminates the need for two appliances
- Super Convection increases fan speed for air frying results closer to dedicated air fryers
- 13 functions in a compact footprint works for smaller kitchens
โ ๏ธ Worth Knowing
- The 'compact' designation means the air fry basket is smaller than a standalone air fryer
- Not as effective for large air fry batches as a dedicated Ninja or Cosori model
Best for small kitchen owners who want air fryer capability without giving up a full toaster oven slot. The compact size is both its strength and limitation. If your kitchen has space, the full-size Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer does more.
