It doesn't support anything different than the 3 and 4. And more importantly, It still doesn't support local control.

You can run it without cloud services. That's the main reason I bought it. Using Homekit with Home Assistant I'm able to control and monitor my Ecobee from anywhere and not have to worry about their cloud service going down.
The HVAC fan uses virtually no energy and it's actually *good* to run the fan when windows are opened as it circulates the air throughout the house and can drop the temperature another 2-3 degrees beyond just having the windows open.
My ecobee worked just fine prior, my switch was primarily for more control over my thermostat and less selling of my data on ecobee part. I also use my system through home assistant so I want all access to everything.
Buy sensors in 4 packs and put one in every room in your house that gets A/C or heating. This will give you the most accurate understanding of the comfort levels in your house.
I bought the premium. I like it, but not sure it was worth the extra cost. Upshot is that it was 50% subsidized by my utility company
I moved from the Ecobee Premium to the Aqara W200 and I like the decision I made ... I use adaptive temperature in the home app and set my schedule in the home app. I believe ecobee does not support that. You have to set up your schedule in the app of ecobee.
โ What Works
- SmartSensor's room-level occupancy detection is the strongest differentiator โ the thermostat only conditions rooms with people in them, and owners consistently cite this as meaningfully reducing their energy bills compared to a traditional programmable thermostat.
- Broadest multi-platform compatibility of any smart thermostat โ works with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri/HomeKit, SmartThings, and IFTTT simultaneously. Unlike Nest, it doesn't lock out any major platform.
- No mandatory subscription โ all core features including scheduling, SmartSensor, geofencing, energy reports, and all voice assistant integrations work without any monthly fee.
- Clean installation with included C-wire adapter and step-by-step app wiring guide. The base plate has a built-in level. Most owners report completing installation without an electrician.
โ ๏ธ Worth Knowing
- Eco+ feature can override your temperature setpoint based on utility grid demand and off-peak pricing. It's opt-in and free, but many owners are surprised to find it enabled by default and come home to an unexpected temperature. Review settings carefully after setup.
- Built-in speaker is weak โ roughly equivalent to a first-generation Echo Dot. It works for voice commands but is not suitable for music or as an Alexa speaker replacement.
- Air quality monitor shows VOC and CO2 on a coarse Clean-to-High scale with no fine particulate (PM2.5) data, and cannot yet trigger smart home automations like air purifiers through Alexa or HomeKit.
- Additional SmartSensors are sold only in 2-packs at $99+ โ you can't buy a single sensor if you only need one more room covered.
The Ecobee SmartThermostat Premium is the most platform-agnostic smart thermostat available โ it works simultaneously with Alexa, Google, Siri, and SmartThings without choosing sides, and the included SmartSensor's room-level occupancy detection can noticeably reduce heating and cooling bills. No mandatory subscription. The Eco+ override complaints are worth reading before you enable it, and the built-in speaker is no substitute for a real smart speaker.
