Thing looks really nice, build quality is great. ... I maintain them once a week and I never really have had issues with them.

"Can be competitive with Chinese robots finally." Well, because this is actually a Chinese robot that iRobot put their name on.

Interesting, finally something genuinely unique from Irobot. Roller mop and dual vac rollers.

They were the pioneers and made "roomba" a household name for robot vacuums like "kleenex" for tissues. ... My i3+ is still chugging along thanks to how easy it is to repair and replace parts.

Your innovation is what started this all and garnered the competition that’s gotten us to the tech we have today.

A roller mop with Roomba carpet performance is what I’ve been waiting for

The roller mop cover seems like a compelling feature—especially for someone like me with high-pile carpets and no clear paths around them.

by that logic majority of the robot vacuums that launched in the last 3 years or so are ALL roborock clones 😭😭😭😭😭 not to mention, this robot is not made by irobot. they are rebranding 3i and other companies' robots.

The dual rollers have always been good and the roller mop looks great. I’ve had good experiences with my iRobot vacuums and it’s a shame they’ve fallen off so much. ... Too expensive though.

In that YouTube video at least, it looks like something I might want to replace my S9+ with.

US brand, but now uses Chinese OEM/designers past J series. Hence why the new bots also require a new app. Seems they incorporated legacy roller design into the newer 705 combo.. ... US designed Roomba's are dead.

The issue with Roomba 705 is that it's a generic dropshipping model from Picea (with slight modifications for brand awareness, made in China. Can't compete with dreame, narwal, mova or ecovacs, but asks a similar price.

Always loved the dual rollers on iRobot. ... Dual roller with heated roller mop is very interesting

Picea (3i) is the ODM but iRobot seems to have some/has done lots of customization or even own design on these expensive models.

Update 2: mapped the whole house (1400 sq ft) in 20 minutes. Thing is fast. the only downside, due to the Lidar turret, it couldn’t go under my TV furniture. ... The dock also doesn’t have any “ramp” .

705 only offers vac (no mop) but it's much better as a vac than 505 is.

S9 was “peak” roomba. It had so much potential and the design language was beautiful. It’s sad they didn’t evolve on the S platform.

The heated mop is really nice. Late to the spin roller but came out swinging.

These are made by the same oem as 3i. ... It's no secret these are being outsourced and aren't irobot in-house designs. And no secret its built using many off the shelf internal components.

No, it's a "rebadge" just like the other ones. Roomba 205 DustCompactor has the same LiDAR setup as this 705 Combo, which is derived from other 3i reference designs.

Why did a lot of you purchase either the 705 Max or 705 Max combo instead of waiting 1-2 years until the bugs were worked out? When something new comes out, I am hesitant to buy anything until I read reviews from Best Buy, Home Depot, and Amazon. ... I wonder if that's intentional on Roomba's part because they know what they're offering may not be able to fully compete with the competition.

✅ What Works

  • Build quality lands consistently well — owners describe it as 'great' and report no real issues after weekly maintenance (Build Quality, 10 mentions).
  • The dual rubber rollers paired with a roller mop are seen as a genuine departure from iRobot's older lineup, called 'genuinely unique' by one owner (Mop Performance, 5 mentions).
  • Suction impressed at least one longtime iRobot owner, who said footage of the Max 705 made them consider replacing their Roomba S9+ (Suction Power, 2 mentions).
  • Mapping speed stood out in practice — one owner mapped a 1,400 sq ft home in about 20 minutes (Navigation & Mapping, 1 mention).

⚠️ Worth Knowing

  • Early-adopter risk is a real concern for some buyers: one owner openly questioned why people bought in before the bugs were worked out, comparing it unfavorably to competitors (Reliability, 1 mention).
  • Price friction shows up even among owners who like the hardware — one called it 'too expensive' in the same breath as praising the rollers (Price & Value, 2 mentions).
  • The LiDAR turret's height keeps the unit from fitting under low furniture like TV stands, and the AutoEmpty dock has no ramp, which some owners flagged as a practical gap (Navigation & Mapping, 1 mention).
  • iRobot's broader reputation is a backdrop for some skepticism — one longtime user noted the brand has 'fallen off' compared to past models.
ClearPick Verdict

Owners repeatedly single out the Max 705's **build quality**, which draws more mentions than every other theme combined (10 of 21 tracked mentions), with one owner calling the roller mop and dual rubber brushes 'genuinely unique' for iRobot after years of iterative releases. Mop performance and suction also get consistent nods, including one longtime Roomba S9+ owner who said the demo footage made them consider switching. The tension owners keep raising: this is a first-generation platform, with one thread openly asking why buyers didn't wait a year or two for the bugs to get worked out, and another praising the rollers while still calling the unit 'too expensive.' Navigation is capable in practice — one owner mapped a 1,400 sq ft home in 20 minutes — but the LiDAR turret keeps it from fitting under low furniture and the dock has no ramp. Owners sold on iRobot's build quality and comfortable being early adopters on a new dual-roller design should consider it; **buyers who want a fully proven track record before spending $599.99 CAD may want to wait** for the platform to mature.
