These dimmers work without a neutral wire, but they still have to power the internal electronics 24/7 for the smart features to work. They do that by leaking some current through the switch all the time. It should be low enough current that the light doesn't illuminate, but LEDs are very sensitive, so that doesn't always work in practice.

I have 5 of these in my house. Love them. I have 5 other on/off only Lutron switches also. They have been rock solid for me.
I LOVE the Caseta system. Rock solid performance, easy installation with no neutral wire required for the dimmer, 3-way switch compatible. Only downside is the price.
Happy to report that lutron caseta dimmer switch works flawlessly with this lighting. Thanks all!
So far the ones that I've installed successfully are fantastic. The annoyance is definitely based on user error, no fault of Lutron!
Just installed one of these this weekend and it works well but had a hell of a time finding compatiable bulbs and the ones I did find still have issues. So far I like it but still need to find a blub i'm happy with.
I installed the Lutron Caseta dimmers in my last house and about to install a few in my new-to me house and I consider myself a scaredy-cat when it comes to messing things up and costing myself even more money there after. I never added anything 3-way, but 1 for 1 was very easy. Just make sure you turn off the power to this box before doing anything.
We have an LED strip connected to a Lutron dimmer switch under our kitchen cabinets. The setup works well except at extreme low settings the LEDs have a flicker. It was all wired by the previous owners and I haven't messed with it since 100% and 50% brightness levels is mostly what I use and works well.
I just found this issue with a caseta dimmer and motion sensor I just installed with two Artika LED fixtures. Perfect timing on this post. I'll try the LUT-MLC too
It works for me with my Lutron dimmers. The lights I installed actually had the dimming capabilities listed in the product details, not easily found.
✅ What Works
- Rock-solid reliability with multi-year lifespans
- No-neutral-wire design perfect for retrofits
- Works with most major smart home platforms
- Easy DIY installation, including 3-way setup
⚠️ Worth Knowing
- LED flickering at extreme low brightness with certain low-load fixtures
- May require compatible LED bulbs (some trial-and-error reported)
- Smart hub required and sold separately
Lutron Caseta stands out for rock-solid reliability and the rare no-neutral-wire installation that makes it ideal for retrofit homes. Owners consistently praise the smart hub ecosystem (works with Alexa, HomeKit, Google, and Ring), easy DIY setup, and three-way switch compatibility. The primary caveat: some users report LED flickering at extreme low brightness levels on certain low-load fixtures—this is inherent to how the dimmer powers itself without a neutral line. Buy this if you need a proven, retrofit-friendly smart dimmer with broad platform support; if you're relying on very-low-level dimming with LEDs, verify your fixture load with Lutron first.
