The thing that annoys me the most is how the sleeping is tracked if there's an interruption. I sometimes have to take my wife to work ... Instead of recognizing that as two separate sleep cycles, it assumes I was up tossing and turning for, say, an hour. That throws the efficiency into a tailspin and dramatically lowers my score.

battery life seems fine to me, what bothers me more is the bad fitness tracking

The Oura Ring's stress metric creates unnecessary anxiety for me and others, particularly after updates. The term "stress" carries a negative connotation, and the lack of clear explanation about what triggers this metric leaves users guessing. ... Despite these healthy metrics, the stress label feels misleading and prompts unnecessary caution, impacting your mindset.

Yes out of no where my 5 month old gen 4 stopped holding a charge. Now it dies at least once a day sometimes twice. It barely lasts overnight now so sleep tracking has gone out of the window. All of this started this weekend after updating the firmware.

Biggest issue: Very limited tag analysis. No way to view metrics by tag. Custom tags not available on Oura on Web so you can't find your own correlations.

Mine is 11 months old (ok, still one to go) but so far no issues at all, everything works well and battery works nominally. However I never charge it to 100% and always remove it from the charger at 80%. Also never let it get below 10% and keep it in that range. Proved to reduce battery wear for me significantly after I had failing rings in the past.

I have had my ring since February and have not had one single issue regarding battery life, I typically charge it every time I am in the shower. But I have gone like two or three days without charging it when I go out of town. I enjoy being able to review my sleep as well as have something tracking my BBT for my menstrual cycle.

โœ… What Works

  • Excellent sleep tracking and detailed insights; standout for sleep-focused users
  • Strong menstrual cycle and women's health tracking capabilities
  • Premium titanium design: comfortable, water-resistant, suitable for 24/7 wear
  • Battery life can extend significantly with disciplined charging habits

โš ๏ธ Worth Knowing

  • Battery reliability is the critical concern: most owners report degradation or failure within 3โ€“9 months, often after firmware updates; only disciplined charging (the '80/10' strategy: 10โ€“80% range only) sustains performance
  • Fitness and activity tracking significantly underperforms compared to competitors
  • Sleep tracking mishandles interruptions, misinterpreting mid-night events as extended wakefulness and degrading sleep scores
  • Stress metric creates confusion and anxiety; poorly explained, often contradicts other healthy metrics
ClearPick Verdict

The Oura Ring 4 delivers strong sleep and menstrual cycle tracking, making it appealing for users prioritizing sleep insights and women's health data. However, battery reliability emerges as the dominant friction point across ownersโ€”multiple report degradation or complete failure within 3โ€“9 months, often correlated with firmware updates, leaving it practical only for those employing strict charging discipline (the '80/10' strategy: charge between 10โ€“80% only). Fitness tracking also underperforms, interrupted sleep patterns confuse the algorithm, and the stress metric generates anxiety rather than guidance. Buy it if sleep tracking and cycle monitoring are your primary needs and you're willing to adopt meticulous charging habits; otherwise, consider a dedicated fitness ring or a sleep-focused alternative.
