Just 2 minutes in and this video has done a far better job of selling the Pro than the entire 9 minute presentation from Sony did.
Consumers need to speak with their wallets. I'm not happy that there is no disc drive or stand, ergo I'm not going to buy it. Maybe Sony will get the message that they make products and games for the consumer, not journalists.
Lack of a pack-in disc drive AND vertical stand. $810 to get a functional equivelant of the original PS5.
I'll die on this hill. $700 for a midgen refresh for *slightly* better graphics, nothing mindblowing here. And, I can't play my physical library on it unless I pay Sony ***ANOTHER*** $80 for what my PS5 can already do?
The issue with PS5 right now is not the Pro and lack of games. It is the lack of games designed FOR the PS5. What is the point of even getting a PS5 Pro when everything is still developed with the PS4 in mind and we barely have any games that actually utilize the power and features of the PS5, let alone a Pro version
Looks like a significant improvement to me and I'm watching the video from my phone. I have an OLED tv so I'm thinking getting the pro, instead of the base PS5 (I'm on my PS4 slim still), is looking more likely at this point.
You get to play PS5 games with higher IQ, more detail, and smoother performance. The performance mode of many Pro games looks like the quality mode of base PS5, but with 60 fps. so if $700 isn't going to break the bank for you its an easy decision to make.
I'm not getting the pro, but anyone pretending they don't see the massive difference is being disingenuous. The presentation sony put out was bad because TLOU2 and forbidden west already look and run perfectly. The 3rd party games - as seen here - look like they'll benefit the most from the pro
At that price tag, I'm 100% just going to upgrade my PC. I just don't see what the point is with owning a console now, especially considering you have to pay subscription fee for online multiplayer.
How is this incremental? This is huge if you have an oled tv, ghosting and the significant upgrade in image clarity is massive for me. You can be unhappy with the price tag without being dense
✅ What Works
- Significant visual improvements and ray tracing, especially on OLED displays
- Consistent 60fps performance mode delivers quality-comparable visuals to base PS5
- Enhanced image clarity and detail in supported games
- 2TB SSD storage
⚠️ Worth Knowing
- Premium price ($1,099.96 CAD) with limited performance gains for PS5 exclusives
- Disc drive and vertical stand sold separately (~$80 each), raising total cost
- First-party PlayStation games don't fully leverage Pro hardware capabilities
- Limited value proposition for current PS5 owners mid-generation
Reviewers confirm the PS5 Pro delivers real gains in visual clarity and frame rate stability, with particularly strong results on OLED displays. However, value concerns dominate feedback: at $1,099.96 CAD plus an additional $80+ for a disc drive (required for backwards compatibility), the total cost feels steep relative to performance gains. The primary criticism centers on PlayStation Studios titles not fully leveraging Pro hardware—they simply enable higher resolution modes rather than new gameplay experiences—while third-party developers appear better positioned to justify the upgrade. Buy this if you own an OLED TV, use it primarily for third-party games, and budget isn't a constraint; otherwise, the standard PS5 remains the better value.
