I have 1 echo but I have 2 Spotify users in the house, and likewise two Amazon accounts. To switch account we say "switch account" and then the other Spotify account is activated. As for the delays, pauses and lag: I have none of that. But maybe it's because I'm not using a stereo pair.

I've just followed your advice and strangely enough, taking it off the stereo pair mode definitely got rid of some of that slowness/delay issue I was experiencing, it's maybe cut down the time it takes for the song to play by about half, which is a big improvement. ... but gapless playback is a really big thing for me - nothing takes me out of an album more than hearing a few seconds of silence between a song that is supposed to transition seamlessly into the next! I'll keep testing it to see how it goes, but I think I will end up returning these.
Alright so I got a replacement device few days ago, it is slightly better but still pretty unusable. It seems that the mics on it are just garbage. ... Will return this and go for a refund, then decide if I settle for Show 8 or double the investment and go for Echo Studio. Shame. I really wanted to like the device, but Jeff effed up.
I use Android ... .from what I've understood there's no additional advantage of buying amazon echo ... .im gonna stick with nest audio
I derigistered mine to send it back, changed my mind set it up again and its fine now.
โ What Works
- The built-in Zigbee, Matter, and Thread hub is the 4th Gen's most distinctive feature โ this Echo replaces a separate smart home hub, allowing direct control of Zigbee devices (Philips Hue without a Bridge, certain smart plugs) and Matter devices without any additional hardware. For building a Zigbee smart home, this Echo eliminates a $50โ100 hub purchase.
- Sound quality for the price is genuinely good โ the 3-inch woofer and Dolby audio processing produce bass and mid-range response that beats most competitors at the same price point. It's not a premium speaker, but it's the best-sounding smart speaker in the $129 CAD range.
- Alexa's smart home control capability is the broadest in the category โ compatibility with over 100,000 devices across every major smart home ecosystem means virtually any smart device you buy will work with voice control through this Echo. Setting up routines, controlling groups of devices, and checking device status all work reliably.
- The spherical design fits naturally on nightstands, shelves, and kitchen counters without looking like a tech product. The fabric cover is available in multiple colors to match decor, and the low-profile base keeps it stable without taking up much horizontal space.
โ ๏ธ Worth Knowing
- Amazon has historically featured heavy advertising in Alexa responses and on Echo displays โ users may encounter Amazon-promoted content alongside utility responses. This is more noticeable on Echo Show devices but extends to audio Echo speakers with some types of queries.
- The 4th Gen Echo lacks a screen, which limits it compared to Echo Show devices for visual smart home control, video calls, and recipe guidance. Users who want those features need to spend more on an Echo Show 8 or 10.
- Alexa privacy settings require active management โ by default, Alexa retains voice recordings. Users who are privacy-conscious should review and configure voice history deletion in the Alexa app and consider enabling the microphone mute hardware button habitually.
- The AUX out port enables using the Echo as a Bluetooth-to-wired speaker bridge or connecting to a more capable speaker system, but it outputs only in stereo and doesn't carry the spatial audio processing the built-in speakers use.
The Amazon Echo 4th Gen is the best all-around smart speaker for Alexa households โ class-leading sound for the price, the broadest smart home device compatibility, and a built-in Zigbee/Matter/Thread hub that saves buying a separate smart home controller. Privacy-conscious users will want to adjust settings out of the box, and anyone who wants visual smart home feedback should consider an Echo Show instead.
