Chuckit! Ultra Ball with Classic Launcher for Dogs
The launcher multiplies throw distance dramatically — most owners can throw 60–80 feet by hand but reach 100–140 feet with the launcher, which is the difference between a dog getting a light jog and a full-speed run. For breeds that need high-intensity cardio (border collies, labs, retrievers), this device meaningfully changes the exercise ceiling of a fetch session.
The scoop-and-launch mechanism means you never need to touch a wet, slobbery ball between throws. For fetch sessions in mud, water, or after rain, this changes the experience entirely — owners who previously gave up on fetch because of ball retrieval now maintain the game through an entire session.
The rubber and nylon composite ball is significantly more durable than standard tennis balls, which dogs can shred into felt and rubber chunks that become ingestion hazards. The Ultra Ball's exterior resists de-fuzzing and the core stays intact through normal fetch use — a genuine safety advantage over the most common alternative.
Chuckit!'s ball ecosystem means the Classic Launcher works with every size ball in their line — small balls for smaller dogs, XL for large breeds, water balls for swimming fetch. The launcher handles all of them without purchasing additional equipment.
⚠️ Worth Knowing
Very determined chewers will eventually compromise the Ultra Ball — the nylon layer on the outside is more puncture-resistant than tennis ball felt but not indestructible. Dogs that are permitted to chew on the ball between throws will shorten its lifespan significantly versus dogs that drop it immediately on return.
The 17-inch Classic Launcher requires a moderate throw motion to work correctly — trying to snap the wrist like a tennis serve can result in the ball launching sideways. There's a brief learning curve to the underhand-forward motion that most owners figure out within a few throws.
Replacement balls cost about $6–12 CAD each, and buying replacements is expected — the launcher is the durable purchase, the balls are the consumable. Having two or three balls per session is ideal so the dog is never waiting for you to throw.
Not suitable for densely populated public spaces where a 140-foot throw could reach other people or dogs. The distance that makes this effective for exercise also means you need sufficient open space — a small dog park or dense trail system limits the product's benefit.
What Real Buyers Are Saying
What buyers love
"My border collie needs 45 minutes of fetch to be calm. With my arm alone I'd be done in 20 minutes. The launcher lets me do the full session without my shoulder giving out."

"I stopped doing fetch in the rain because I hated picking up the ball. The scoop launcher solved that completely. We now fetch through any weather — my dog is the happiest he's ever been."

"This is the first toy my golden hasn't destroyed in the first week. The rubber is actually tough. The tennis balls I used before would be shredded in two sessions."

"Best $24 I've spent for my dog. He's been obsessed with fetch for four years and this makes the game genuinely better for both of us."

Common complaints
My lab chews the ball between throws…
If I let my lab hold the ball for more than a few seconds she starts chewing it. Two sessions in she had punctured the surface. You need to enforce drop-it immediately for the ball to last.

Ball launched sideways until I learned the motion…
First three throws were straight sideways because I was using a wrist snap. Once I figured out the forward underhand swing it works perfectly. The instructions don't really explain the technique.

Need more space than I thought…
I live near an off-leash park that's about 80 feet wide. At full power the ball goes past the park boundary. I have to throw at half-power which defeats the purpose. Great product for open fields.

Ball wore out faster with a strong chewer…
Three months in the outer coating is worn through in spots. My golden retrieves obsessively and doesn't chew hard but the ball is showing wear. For the price I'll just buy a replacement but it wasn't advertised as a consumable.

ClearPick Verdict
The Chuckit! Ultra Ball with Classic Launcher is the best fetch tool for active breeds that need more distance and intensity than hand-throwing provides, and the no-touch ball pickup is a genuine quality-of-life improvement for fetch in wet or muddy conditions. The ball is the consumable in this system — buy two or three at a time. For high-energy dogs in households that do daily fetch, this is one of the highest return-on-investment pet purchases available.
