DEWALT 20V MAX Cordless Drill Combo Kit, 2-Tool (DCK240C2)
Drills & Drivers
The DEWALT DCK240C2 is a 2-tool combo kit pairing a drill/driver and impact driver on the 20V MAX platform, bundled with two 1.5Ah batteries, a charger, and a bag. Available on Amazon.ca (ASIN B00IJ0ALYS) at around $199 CAD.
Two tools plus two batteries plus charger plus bag in one box at $199 CAD is exceptional value. The DCD771 drill handles everything from hanging pictures to boring 1-inch holes in pine framing, while the DCF885 impact driver drives deck screws and structural fasteners with enough torque that you'll rarely feel limited.
The 20V MAX battery platform is the long-term value multiplier. Both 1.5Ah batteries in this kit power any of DEWALT's 150+ 20V MAX tools — so the kit functions as a platform entry point. When you add a circular saw, reciprocating saw, or multi-tool, the batteries and charger you already own work with everything.
The 24-position clutch on the DCD771 gives fine control for driving screws without camming out or stripping — important for soft materials like pine cabinetry or MDF. Combined with the 2-speed gearbox, it handles delicate fastening tasks that a hammer drill or impact driver would mangle.
Compact build on both tools — 7.9 inches front to back on the drill, 5.55 inches on the impact driver — means both fit in tight spaces like inside cabinetry or between studs. The lightweight design at 3.6 and 2.8 lbs respectively reduces fatigue during extended overhead work.
⚠️ Worth Knowing
This kit uses brushed motors, not brushless. That's the trade-off at this price point. Brushed motors generate more heat under sustained load, have shorter service life (typically 3-5 years of regular use vs 10+ for brushless), and offer less runtime per charge. For homeowner use, this is invisible in practice; for contractors running tools all day, it matters.
The 1.5Ah batteries are on the small end — expect about 45 minutes of moderate drilling before recharging. The charger is a standard charger (not a fast charger), so a full charge takes about an hour. DEWALT's 2.0Ah and 4.0Ah batteries are direct upgrades if runtime is a priority.
The DCK240C2 uses the older DCD771 drill, which has a 3/8-inch chuck rather than the 1/2-inch chuck found on higher-end models. This limits the maximum bit shank size — most common bits are fine, but some larger spade bits and hole saws require a 1/2-inch chuck.
This is an established product (originally released 2014) and the ASIN B00IJ0ALYS reflects the brushed combo kit that remains available on Amazon.ca. DEWALT has released brushless successors (DCK277C2) that cost more but offer better performance for heavy-use buyers.

Common complaints
Brushed motors run warm under load…
After 20 minutes of continuous drilling in hardwood, both tools get noticeably hot. They need a cooldown break before the next long run. Fine for home projects, not ideal for all-day contractor work.

1.5Ah batteries run out fast…
Both batteries together give about 90 minutes of moderate use. On bigger projects you're waiting for a charge. I bought two 2.0Ah batteries separately to keep pace.

3/8-inch chuck limits larger bits…
I wanted to use a 1-inch spade bit and it was too large for the chuck. Had to borrow a friend's drill with a 1/2-inch chuck. Should be in the description more prominently.

Impact driver sequential fire only…
The DCF885 impact driver doesn't have a bump-fire mode. Fine for most fastening but if you're used to a bump-fire driver, the trigger discipline takes adjustment.

ClearPick Verdict
The DCK240C2 is the standard starter kit recommendation for homeowners entering the DEWALT 20V MAX ecosystem — two capable tools, two batteries, a charger, and a bag for $199 CAD. The brushed motors and 1.5Ah batteries are the honest limitations, but they are irrelevant for the target user: a homeowner assembling furniture, hanging shelves, and doing occasional repairs. Contractors or enthusiasts wanting daily-driver performance should budget for the brushless DCK277C2 instead.
