Heavy for a portable speaker…
I hike with it and at 2 lbs it adds up on long trips. JBL should have made a lighter version for backpackers. The Flip 6 is much more packable.

"The powerbank feature saved me at the campsite when my phone was about to die. Charged it to 80% while the speaker kept playing."

"Dropped it in the river multiple times this summer. IP67 is the real deal — still sounds perfect."

"The bass from those passive radiators is insane for the size. My neighbor across the yard could hear it clearly."

Source: Amazon reviewerDoesn't float…
I assumed IP67 waterproof meant it would float. Dropped it off my kayak and it sank immediately. Luckily the water was shallow.
Source: Amazon reviewerBass is too heavy for home use…
Sounds great at the beach but in my apartment the bass is overwhelming for podcasts and folk music. Even with EQ turned down it's bass-forward.
Source: RedditJBL app could be better…
The JBL Portable app is functional but less polished than Bose's app. EQ works but the UI feels dated compared to competitors.
Source: Amazon reviewerThe JBL Charge 5 is the best portable speaker for outdoor endurance — 20 hours battery, IP67 waterproofing, and a built-in phone charger make it the most practically useful speaker for all-day outdoor use. The extra weight and bass-forward tuning are trade-offs that won't suit everyone, but for buyers who want one speaker that can handle a full festival weekend without a recharge and charge their phone too, nothing else at $199 CAD competes.
