✅ What Works

  • Matter support makes the Assure Lock 2 Plus the most interoperable smart lock available — it works natively with every major ecosystem (HomeKit, Alexa, Google, SmartThings) through a single Matter credential, with no separate cloud accounts or bridges required for ecosystem integration.
  • The lock supports up to 250 unique access codes — more than any competing smart lock at this price — making it ideal for Airbnb hosts, rental properties, and families with multiple regular visitors who each need their own code.
  • The touchscreen keypad is backlit and responsive in cold weather, which matters in Canadian climates where winter temperatures can cause capacitive touchscreens on competing locks to become unreliable. Physical keypad backup ensures the code entry always works regardless of temperature.
  • Wi-Fi is built in without a hub, so remote access, notifications, and guest code management all work through the Yale Access app without purchasing any additional devices. Remote monitoring via the app includes detailed access logs with timestamps for every entry.

⚠️ Worth Knowing

  • Unlike the Schlage Encode Plus, the Assure Lock 2 Plus does not support Apple Home Key — there's no tap-to-unlock with iPhone or Apple Watch. For Apple households specifically, the Schlage is the better choice. The Yale wins on ecosystem breadth and code capacity.
  • The touchscreen keypad leaves fingerprint smudges that can reveal which digits your code uses if someone examines the screen closely. Yale's keypad scramble feature (which randomizes digit positions each use) mitigates this but requires enabling it in settings.
  • The key cylinder included with the lock is a standard grade — not the highest security grade available. For very high-security applications, upgrading the key cylinder to a Grade 1 option from a locksmith provides better physical security than the included cylinder.
  • Battery life depends heavily on usage — high-traffic installations (30+ operations/day) may see batteries last only 3–4 months rather than the claimed 6 months. The auto-lock feature, if enabled, increases battery drain further.

What Real Buyers Are Saying

What buyers love

"I use Google Home, my partner uses HomeKit — both work perfectly with one lock and one setup. That's what Matter promised and it delivers."

"Airbnb hosting made easy. I generate a unique code for each guest through the app and delete it when they check out. Zero key handoffs, zero lockouts."

Source: Amazon reviewer

"The touchscreen works in -20°C Canadian winters. My old lock's capacitive pad stopped working at around -10°C. Big upgrade."

"Access log shows exactly who came in and when. I can see the kids got home from school right from my phone at work."

Common complaints

No Apple Home Key…

I bought this for my HomeKit setup and only realized after that Home Key tap-to-unlock isn't supported. That's a Schlage Encode Plus exclusive. Still works great with the app.

Fingerprints reveal your code digits…

After a week you can see which four buttons I press by the smudge pattern. Enable the code scramble feature immediately — it's in settings but not turned on by default.

Batteries drain faster with auto-lock…

Auto-lock every 30 minutes burned through my batteries in under 3 months. Turned it off and now I'm getting closer to 6 months.

Matter setup requires the Yale app first…

Still needed to create a Yale account and do initial setup through their app before Matter would work. Thought Matter meant skipping all that.

ClearPick Verdict

The Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus is the best cross-platform smart deadbolt for households with mixed Apple/Android devices or multiple smart home ecosystems — Matter support, 250 access codes, and built-in Wi-Fi cover every integration scenario. It's the clear choice over the Schlage for Android users, rental properties, and anyone who doesn't need Apple Home Key tap-to-unlock.
