✅ What Works

  • The constant-force mechanism is what makes the LX the best monitor arm available — position your monitor anywhere in its range and let go, and it stays there with no drifting or sagging. Cheap arms use friction clamps that loosen over time; the LX uses a calibrated spring system that maintains position indefinitely.
  • Thirty-four-inch monitor support and 25 lbs weight capacity covers virtually every mainstream monitor. Most monitor arms top out at 27 inches or 17 lbs, which excludes ultrawide monitors. The LX handles them without issue.
  • The integrated cable channels run from the desk mount through every joint to the monitor, keeping HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB cables completely hidden inside the arm. Cable management that would otherwise require clips and ties is solved by the arm's design.
  • The twenty-five-inch reach forward from the mounting point — plus 13 inches of height range and 360° rotation — means you can position the monitor at exactly the right distance and angle for your eyes without moving the desk or your chair. Eye-level positioning at the right distance dramatically reduces neck strain.

⚠️ Worth Knowing

  • The LX is designed for monitors up to 25 lbs. Heavier monitors — like some larger ultrawide curved panels — may require adjustment of the internal spring tension with an Allen key. Ergotron provides instructions and a torque setting guide.
  • The c-clamp requires desk thickness between 0.4 and 3.4 inches to mount. Most standard desks work, but glass desks and some floating desk designs won't accommodate the c-clamp — use the grommet mount if your desk has a grommet hole.
  • The LX doesn't fold fully flat — at minimum extension, the monitor is still about 2.5 inches in front of the mount. If you want the monitor flush with the wall on a very shallow desk, this may be slightly farther out than ideal.
  • Ergotron makes the OEM version of several Amazon Basics and HP monitor arms. The LX is the premium original with better finish quality, but if budget is tight, the Amazon Basics arm uses similar internals at lower cost.

What Real Buyers Are Saying

What buyers love

"Set the monitor where I want it, let go, it stays. That's it. That's the feature. Every other arm I've owned has slowly sagged to the desk over weeks. The LX just doesn't do that."

"My 34-inch ultrawide sits perfectly. I was worried about the weight limit but the arm handles it easily. Cables are routed inside and invisible. The desk looks professional now."

Source: Reddit

"Moving the monitor out of the way for meals and meetings and back to work position is effortless. The range of motion is genuinely larger than I expected from the spec sheet."

Source: Amazon reviewer

"Freed up significant desk space by getting the monitor stand off the desk. Plus I can finally adjust height and distance for my specific sitting position. Worth every dollar."

Common complaints

Spring needs adjustment for lighter monitors…

Installed with a 22-inch 10-lb monitor and it kept rising on its own. Adjusting the internal spring with the included Allen key fixed it, but the instructions could be clearer.

Source: Amazon reviewer

C-clamp can mark desks…

Left slight marks on my wooden desk despite the included padding. Recommend adding extra felt or a rubber pad under the clamp for finished wood surfaces.

Source: Reddit

Pricey compared to Amazon Basics…

The $199 price is hard to swallow when the Amazon Basics version (same mechanism) is ~$90. The LX finish is nicer but functionally very similar. Worth the premium if aesthetics matter.

Installation takes 20+ minutes…

More involved to set up than I expected. Routing cables through the arm takes patience and the spring calibration needs a trial run. Not difficult, just not instant.

ClearPick Verdict

The Ergotron LX is the definitive single-monitor arm for serious desk setups. The constant-force mechanism that holds any position without drift, the 34-inch and 25-lb capacity, and the integrated cable management combine to make this the most capable and best-built arm at this price. The OEM Amazon Basics version offers similar mechanics at lower cost, but the LX's finish quality and Ergotron's reputation for long-term reliability justify the premium for buyers who want the best.
